As the countdown to the January 13, 2024 Election Day approaches, the Central Election Commission (CEC) reminds the public to help prevent the invasion of false election messages. Please help your family members and elders to add message review tools to their communication software, to prevent tampering from false election messages and harming the country’s democracy. According to the CEC, false election messages are easily circulated in online fan groups and LINE groups. If the public believes them and passes them on, these messages may even circulate in everyone’s families’or friends’ groups, which may violate the law if people pass on false election messages.

In order to help the public identify these messages, the CEC reminds everyone that any election information can be found on the CEC website, and suggests the public only need to take a small action to help yourselves and your family members by actively adding the message review tools to LINE, fan groups, and social media APPs. These tools include ”LINE Fact Checker”, “Cofacts True or False”, “Mygopen”, “Gogolook”, “Taiwan FactCheck Center”, “ChainSafer” of Trend Micro, etc, which can be used to filter out false information and rumors about the election to prevent family members or friends from accidentally passing on false information and being penalized for violating the law.

The CEC also indicated that false election messages will not only affect the public’s willingness to vote, but also affect the order of the election, and may even violate the provisions of various laws. In the Internet’s era, the public is urged to make use of the above information verification tools. Protect yourself, your families, and the elders, as well as protect the values and results of Taiwan’s democracy.
