The initial stage of the free cash disbursement plan has unfolded smoothly under the collaboration of related ministries and commissions in full effort since the launch of the “Registration for Cash Disbursement” on March 22 2013, according to the National Treasury Administration, Ministry of Finance (NTAMOF). The 1988 customer hotline was opened for service on March 20, and answered calls from a population of more than 280,000 people by the end of August. The summary of the inquiry includes the registration for cash disbursement, eligibility for free cash, pick-up at the post office, and online fund transfers. With the positive effort of the 1988 customer service hotline and related ministries and commissions, the questions of the public have been quickly addressed and the disbursements have been made successfully. As of September 20, there were more than 23.26 million people who had applied for free cash claims and more than 98% have successfully received their cash through a diversity of channels.

NTAMOF went further than the deadline for registration for free cash claims, extending until October 31 of this year, and those who were born between October 1 to December 31 in Taiwan with the issuance of a birth certificate with their biological mother or father are entitled to free cash claims and will also benefit. They can pick up the free cash at any of the post office over-the-counter by January 31, 2024.

For picking up free cash over-the-counter at the post office, parents are strongly advised to bring along the birth certificate of the new born baby and the identification documents bearing the photo of the father or mother. If the father or mother appoints a third party to claim the free cash, identification documents bearing the photo of the authorized person are also required, according to NTAMOF. In alignment with the procedure of hospitals on reporting new born babies, NTAMOF strongly advises the parents of new born babies to claim their free cash over-the-counter at the post office 10 days after the birthday of the new born baby. For additional information, please call the 1988 customer service hotline.

NTAMOF reiterates that the government will not provide notifications for registration by SMS or e-mail, and will not ask prospective recipients for the relevant operation of fund transfer at an ATM or online banking by telephone. The public is urged to be alert and never fall prey to scams or information theft from outlaws, and shall call the 165 hotline for fraud prevention on any suspected website or information. It is the effort of all to fight fraud.
