The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon, please follow the procedures to keep African swine fever at bay

Due to the border is open gradually, there has been an increasing trend of penalties for inbound passengers carrying animal products recently. Moreover, the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon, please pay attention for the followings to prevent meat-filled mooncakes and other animal products imported legally. It’s critical to maintain the safety of agricultural production  

in our country, keeping African swine fever and other animal infectious disease from the border:

1. Do not carry or send meat-filled mooncakes and other animal products via courier and parcels when entering the country.

2. Inbound passenger who got caught for carrying pork-containing products from African swine fever countries in past three years, he/she will be fined NT$200,000 for the first time. Second offense will be fined NT$1 million for repeated violations. If the person does not have resident status, and he/she fails to pay the NT$200,000 fines immediately. In this case, Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council o Agriculture, Executive Yuan (BAPHIQ) branch can turn him/her to National Immigration Agency. In the end, he/she will be denied entry to the country.

3. For inbound passenger who import pork-containing product via parcels, he/she will be fined NT$200,000 for the first time. Second offense will be fined NT$1 million for repeated violations.
