The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) announced the first African swine fever report from Cambodia. The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) has confirmed the report. Starting on April 4, passengers arriving in Taiwan from Cambodia with pork or pork products will be fined NT$200,000. Foreign travelers who do not pay the fine will be refused entry.

BAPHIQ Director General Feng Hai-tung pointed out that if a passenger traveling from Cambodia is found to have pork or pork products a second time, the fine will increase to NT$1 million. Travelers must take care not to violate Taiwan regulations. We must prevent the virus from entering Taiwan to protect the country’s pig farming industry.

The fine for travelers who violate the regulations by bringing in pork and pork products from African swine fever zones starts at NT$200,000. Foreign travelers who do not pay the fine cannot enter Taiwan. BAPHIQ stated that of all the African swine fever countries in Asia, only Mongolia has a minimal amount of travelers. Cambodia is the new focus for border epidemic prevention, after China and Vietnam.
