The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said there is no need for mass testing for the COVID-19 coronavirus in Taiwan, as the rate of infection so far has been quite low. After collecting international preliminary results of a comprehensive screening test for COVID-19, most screening methods use antibody testing. The positive rate of screening is mostly less than 10%, which is far less than the protective net formed by herd immunity (at least 50% of the people have antibodies); in addition, the prevalence rate of antibody detection at a single time may have false positives, leading the public to believe that it has protection and negligence of self-protection measures. Whether the positive antibody test has protection and the duration of maintenance is still to be clarified by follow-up research. Therefore, before the effective vaccines, it is necessary to actively respond to the epidemic by the public’s health behaviors. In addition, the results of the investigation on Nucleic Acid Testing(NAT) are only less than 5% in countries with severe epidemics.

CECC said people should maintain hand hygiene and cough etiquette. If people are unable to maintain a social distance outdoors, please wear a mask. When entering the border, if people have fever, cough and other uncomfortable symptoms, people should take the initiative to notify the airport quarantine inspectors and cooperate with epidemic prevention measures. People must implement a 14-day home quarantine. If people suspect symptoms, please contact the health bureau or local government care centers, and follow the instructions to seek medical treatment, do not take public transportation. When visiting the doctor, be sure to inform the doctor about travel history, occupation type, contact history and whether it is clustered (TOCC) for diagnosis and notification.
