Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program
Q1 Who is eligible for this program?
A1: Citizens of foreign countries, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, who have overstayed in Taiwan are eligible for this program, regardless of their VISA types.
Q2 What benefits do overstayers get from turning themselves in through this program?
A2: Overstayers who turn themselves in can be exempted from detentions, entry bans, and pay a minimum fine of NTD 2,000.
Q3 What is the designated period for this program?
A3:The promotion period for this program starts from Mar. 20 and ends on Mar. 31 followed by the implementation period, which starts from Apr. 1 and ends on Jun. 30,2020. Overstayers who turn themselves in during either period can receive the benefits of this program.
Q4 What happens if overstayers don’t turn themselves in?
A4: Overstayers who fail to turn themselves in are subject to detentions, entry bans for a certain period, and a fine ranging from NTD2,000 to 10,000.
Q5 What if overstayers turn themselves in after the designated period of this program (after July 1, 2020)?
A5:Penalties imposed on overstayers, including detentions, fines, and entry bans, are likely to be enhanced.
Q6 Is the Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program going to be held periodically?
A6: No. This is an one-off program for fighting against Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19).

Overstayers who turn themselves in or caught by authorities after the designated period of this program will receive a full penalty as prescribed by the current law. Meanwhile, authorities will push for an enhanced penalty amendment.
