Explanations for New Immigrants’ Concern about Time Period of Receiving Taiwan Residency

Current foreign spouses who have been legally stayed in Taiwan for three years and receive Taiwanese citizenship through naturalization can reside in Taiwan permanently if not traveling abroad for one year. Spouses from Mainland China need to rely on a joint-family residence (four years) and long-term residence (two years) to apply for permanent residence. The regulations are stated in “Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area” and “Nationality Act,” which are administered by Mainland Affair Council of Executive Yuan and Department of Household Registration Affairs of Ministry of the Interior.
