Marriage Registration

The following mandatory documents (original copies required) must be prepared:
1. Documents proving the personal identification of both parties (the national ID card for an R.O.C. citizen; the passport, alien resident certificate [ARC] or exit/entry permit for a foreign national; the exit/entry permit for a Chinese bearing the ‘APPLICATION APPROVED AFTER INTERVIEW FOR MARRIAGE REGISTRATION’ stamp affixed by a National Immigration Agency [NIA] officer)
2. The household certificate, and one photo taken within the past two years (For photo specifications please refer to our Department of Household Registration’s website http:// www.ris.gov.tw/), and a personal seal (signature acceptable) for an R.O.C. citizen
3. When an R.O.C. citizen enters into marriage with a foreign national who holds an alien permanent resident certificate (APRC), the applicant must prepare their marriage agreement bearing the seals/signatures of two witnesses, a declaration for a foreign spouse to adopt a Chinese name, and the document proving the marital status and its Chinese translation as certified by a diplomatic mission. Both parties must file for marriage registration in person at any household registration offices.
