Immigration to Taiwan by marriage has already attracted over 0.5 million people from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, Europe, the U.S., etc. .This means half a million multicultural families. In addition, there are more than 350,000 children from families with immigrant parents, breathing new life into Taiwanese society. The cultivation of talents in these families will not only advance the scope of international employment but also improve competence, further contributing to the market development in ASEAN countries.
The steady increase in marriage immigration has in particular given rise to structural changes in Taiwan’s population, instilling new impetus into society. Children born to immigrant parents also bring new social dimensions as well as strengths into Taiwan. Therefore our government organized a cross-ministerial Coordination Meeting on Immigration Affairs. In June 2015, the “Purposes of the Coordination Meeting on Immigration Affairs by Executive Yuan” was announced, with the first meeting held on August 4 in the same year, hosted by the then-Premier Mao.
