Immigrant spouses often face difficulties obtaining information and resources about maternal and child health due to inadequacy of language skills, cultural differences and adaptation issues. To alleviate such problem, we offer a service entitled “Maternal health counseling and file management of health checkups for immigrants” for immigrants and their children as well as families with immigrant members. The service covers guidance on breastfeeding, pregnancy care, regular prenatal checkups, and pregnancy nutrition. Furthermore, counseling and checkups for maternal and child health are available at local departments of health in the form of checkup records.

To ensure maternal health for immigrant women who have not yet enrolled in the National Health Insurance program, we have launched the “Prenatal Checkup Subsidy Program for Non-NHI-insured Immigrant Women.” The program covers prenatal checkups, follow-ups on high-risk populations, and 7 preventive checkups for children. Immigrant women not insured by the national health insurance (NHI) are expected to receive prenatal checkups on a regular basis to ensure maternal and child health.

In consideration of language barriers, we offer Maternal Health Booklet and Children’s Health Booklet. These manuals are available in bilingual versions (Chinese-English, Chinese-Vietnamese, Chinese-Indonesian, Chinese-Thai, Chinese-Khmer) and periodically updated to provide the latest information on pregnancy, birth and parenthood for immigrants.
