According to an amendment of Forest Law Article 50, terms of imprisonment for receiving, moving, storing, purchasing, or arranging the sale of illegal lumber have been increased to over 6 months and under 5 years. Fines have also been increased to between NT$300,000 and NT$3,000,000. According to the new amendment, the minimum penalty for such behavior must include at least 6 months of imprisonment and a fine of at least NT$300,000.

According to the amendment of Forest Law Article 52, the theft of lumber with significant environmental or economic value (such as conifer, Taiwan Red Cypress, Taiwan Hinoki, Taiwan Incense Cedar, Taiwan Yew, or Stout Camphor) will result in a higher penalty, including a limited term of imprisonment of up to 10 years and 6 months. Likewise, the fines have also been increased, and will be awarded at an amount of between 10 and 20 times the value of the theft.

This amendment has increased the fines and penalties for the theft and sale of lumber, emphasizing the importance of protecting Taiwan's forest resources, national safety, and the economic value of our forests. The Forestry Bureau solemnly warns against the illegal lumbering of our forests, and will continue to cooperate with prosecutors and the police, in order to shine a light on illegal lumbering practices. We also ask citizens for their cooperation in helping to protect our forest resources.
