Measles is highly contagious, and parents should avoid taking infants under 12 months old and children who have not been vaccinated with MMR to outbreak areas. If you must take infants over 6 months but under 12 months old, be sure they receive the MMR vaccine prior to making the trip. For adults (especially for those born after 1981) who have plans to travel to measles outbreak areas, ask your local hospitals 2 to 4 weeks before the trip if they provide MMR vaccinations, and have a doctor evaluate your needs. If you believe you are experiencing measles symptoms, you should report to Human Quarantine Inspection authorities, put on a mask, and inform your doctor about your travels.

For more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control website , or call the toll-free disease prevention hotline at1922 (or 0800-001922).
