Purchasing Energy-Saving Appliances? Apply for Quick and Convenient Commodity Tax Refunds Online!

To promote the use of energy-saving household appliances to mitigate carbon emissions and foster a sustainable environment, The National Taxation Bureau of the Central Area, Ministry of Finance reminds individuals who purchase eligible appliances, including refrigerators, air conditioners (cooling or heating), or dehumidifiers with energy efficiency ratings of Class 1 or 2, as certified by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, before June 14, 2025 are now eligible to conveniently apply for commodity tax refunds online. 

To streamline the process, taxpayers can access the Ministry of Finance Tax Portal (https://www.etax.nat.gov.tw/Announcement/ Commodity Tax Refund Zone for Purchase of Energy Saving Appliances /Consumer Online Application) for quick and efficient processing.

The National Taxation Bureau of the Central Area noted that online applications for tax reduction and refund require the submission of the following documents:

1. Original copy of GUI invoice or receipt (exempt for those with cloud invoices and electronic invoice certificates).

2. Cover page of beneficiary bank account passbook.

3. Warranty certificate or warranty card for the purchased appliance.

The Bureau also requests that the above-mentioned attachments be consolidated into 1 (or 2 files at most), with a combined file size not exceeding 8MB. The file extensions allowed are doc, docx, xls, xlsx, odt, ods, pdf, jpg, jpeg, png, tif, or gif. If the file size exceeds the limit, applicants may take provide a picture of the GUI invoice, product warranty certificate or warranty card, and passbook together in one photograph, and then capture the screenshot of the photo to upload.

Furthermore, the Bureau reminds consumers to submit their applications within 6 months from the transaction date indicated on the GUI invoice or receipt of the eligible appliance purchase. Applications submitted after this period will not be eligible for commodity tax refunds. For inquiries, please call the toll-free service number 0800-000321.
