The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) stated that in response to the outbreak of a respiratory epidemic in China, the CDC has implemented measures for “Targeted Monitoring and Encouragement of Traveler Testing,” which is aimed at monitoring whether incoming travelers from China are carrying any emerging or variant pathogens. Furthermore, the CDC has reinforced fever screenings at four international airports in Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, and has also activated “Targeted Monitoring and Encouragement of Traveler Testing” measures and protocols. Travelers arriving in Taiwan from China, Hong Kong, and Macau are encouraged, if experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, or nasal congestion, to proactively contact airport quarantine personnel for assessment, undergo nasopharyngeal swabs, and promptly seek medical attention. Within 10 days after entry, individuals are requested to voluntarily report their health status daily, and local public health authorities will initiate health monitoring and welfare checks.

The CDC reiterates that autumn and winter are seasons prone to respiratory infectious diseases. With flu and respiratory viruses such as COVID-19 persisting in community-acquired infections, people are advised to promptly get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 (XBB subvariants) to gain timely protection. With the Lunar New Year drawing close and frequent cross-strait exchanges, travelers should pay attention to their health conditions during journeys. If experiencing fever or flu-like symptoms upon entry, individuals should voluntarily inform quarantine personnel at the airport or seaport, undergo fever screenings, and health assessments. If symptoms persist or worsen after entry, individuals should wear masks, seek medical attention promptly, and voluntarily disclose their travel history for assessment and reporting by healthcare providers.
