In light of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, assistance is requested for the advocacy of preventing the infection of African Swine Fever and other critical animal diseases to Taiwan among the travelling population.

(i) Visitors who brought items into Taiwan restricted under the rules of APHIA are mainly ham sausages, sausages, Chinese style sausages, seasoned chicken crawls, duck neck, salted and spicy ducks, duck intestines, dried beef, and half-cooked eggs from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

(ii) Those who sent items to Taiwan restricted under the rules of APHIA via mail parcels are mainly cakes and cooked meat products containing pork like ham sausages, dried pork, deep-fried pork skin, Chinese style sausages, pork floss rolls, Phoenix rolls, almond cake, and moon cakes; meat products containing beef like dried beef and instant beef packs; products containing poultry like chick crawls, BBQ duck necks and deep-fried chicken skin; and occasionally pet foods containing the parts and meats of ungulates and poultry.

II. Statistics in the past indicated that cases of this kind would likely increase as Mid-Autumn Festival is not far away. We ask you to make additional efforts to remind migrant workers, spouses of foreign nationalities, foreigners, and foreign students to Taiwan of the following to ward off the infection of African Swine Fever to Taiwan:

(i) Do not bring any meat products and other plants and animals subject to inspection and quarantine into Taiwan, or through flight meals into Taiwan. If products of this kind were brought into Taiwan inadvertently, dump the products into the designated trash cans or declare for discarding the items prior to customs clearance. 

(ii) Tell all friends and relatives not to send products containing pork (like moon cake) and other meat products subject to inspection and quarantine to Taiwan via messenger or mail parcels to avoid penalties.

(iii) If pork products from countries (regions) infected by African Swine Fever over the last 3 years were found illegally brought into Taiwan, the parties concerned shall be subject to a fine amounting to NT$200,000 for the initial count of offense, and a fine amounting to NT$1,000,000 for the second count of offense. If the aforementioned parties concerned do not have permanent residency status is fined NT$200,000 and is unable to pay the fine on the spot, the Regional Office of APHIA will refer the cases to the National Immigration Agency for denying entry to the parties concerned.  

(iv) The addressees of pork products sent from countries or regions infected by African Swine Fever by mail will be subject to a fine amounting to NT$200,000 for the initial offense, and a fine amounting to NT$1,000,000 for repeated offenses if found and confirmed.
