[Vocational Training Theme] Free vocational training courses to cultivate "new" talents

In order to help new immigrants, improve their employability in the workplace, the government and non-governmental organizations have launched a series of diversified vocational training courses, such as manicure, baking, tour guides, interpreters, etc. People who meet specific qualifications can not only subsidize the full training fee but receive a vocational training living allowance to help them learn second skills and build the connection with society.

Free vocational training courses for new immigrants

Unemployed new immigrants (referring to foreigners who are married to nationals with household registration within the territory of the Republic of China, and who are allowed to stay and work in Taiwan according to law, people of the mainland area, Hong Kong residents or Macao residents). They only need to participate the courses from branches of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor. No matter it’s from self-organized, commissioned or subsidized vocational training courses for the unemployed, the training costs during the period will be fully supported by the government.

Spouse who holds the national status of the country can participate in vocational training with a subsidy of 80% of the training cost as general national; the unemployed with specific status, such as the middle-aged and the elderly, the physically and mentally handicapped, the middle- and low-income households, and the second-time employed women, are free of charge for the courses.

Living allowance subsidy can be claimed during vocational training

If new immigrants lost their jobs, they could participate in training through the arrangement of public employment service institution, or through the selection and training of vocational training. Full-time vocational training shall meet the following conditions:

1. The training period is more than 1 month.

2. 4 or above training days per week.

3. Daily training for 4 hours or above every day.

4. More than 100 hours for total training hours per month.

Vocational training and living allowances are paid monthly at 60% of the basic salary, with a maximum subsidy of 6 months within 2 years; however, for applicant who is physically or mentally handicapped, and the maximum payment is 12 months. During vocational training, the government provides care subsidies

 In order to encourage unemployed new immigrants to participate in vocational training courses proactively, local governments will provide temporary childcare or elderly care subsidies. For example, the Taipei City Government provides financial subsidies for trainees to support the elderly and children. Also, Taoyuan City Government provides subsidies such as temporary childcare subsidy for reducing the burden on families, so that families will no longer feel stress out for both matters. Vocational training courses in counties and cities

The TaiwanJobs integrates various employment information to help people find jobs, learning skills and start a business. If people would like to participate in the vocational training courses run by the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor or commissioned by private institutions, colleges and local governments, it’s available from TaiwanJobs "Vocational Training " or IFI Network " Employment-Training " for inquiries.

Vocational training centers which set up by local governments provide people new knowledge about the workplace, employment consulting services, vocational training courses, recruitment of talents and lectures, so that the public can learn a skill, moreover, they will guide them for obtaining a license. Digital Service Platform for Workforce Development offers multiple workplace skills courses

The Workforce Development Digital Service Platform (https://portal.wda.gov.tw/) integrates digital teaching materials such as online courses, e-books, and audio-visual materials to adapt to the future development of action learning and to reach the goal of a lifelong learning service website for workforce development. Moreover, there are different kinds of courses by occupations about a thousand courses in total, so that people can choose suitable courses according to their own needs. In order to encourage unemployed new immigrants to enter the workplace smoothly, the government provides various assistance, such as vocational training courses, subsidies for training expenses and living allowances, free digital learning courses, etc., to cultivate their specialties, more than that, they can hold a view to enhancing their employability.
