International or cross-Strait marriages are commonplace now. However, when a marriage breaks down, parents often fight over custody of minor children, and sometimes a parent simply takes children with them as they return to their home country without knowledge or consent of the other parent. As a result, the other parent loses contact or is denied child visitation illegally, undermining the interests of children.

To address this issue, the Social and Family Affairs Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare has established a protocol for missing cases of minor children abducted by a parent or relative. With cooperation from the Missing Children Data Resource Center, such cases can be filed to the Center via the hotline: 0800-049-880.
