With the Government’s promotion of New Southbound Policy, the number of visitors from Southeast Asia countries has grown significantly. In order to provide friendly services, central and local governments as well as museums and other units offer multilingual tour brochures and tour services to let tourists and new immigrants from the world understand more about Taiwan’s scenic views and customs. Multilingual Guided Tour Services as a Way to Practice Culture Equity

Since 2017, Ministry of Culture selected four demonstration museums including National Taiwan Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Taiwan History, and National Museum of Prehistory that are located in the north, central, south, and east of Taiwan respectively. Multi-language tour and broadcast services including Taiwanese, Hakka, Aboriginal languages, and sign languages are provided in the museums to strengthen multilingual public services. 

In order to get close to new immigrants, National Palace Museum and it Southern Branch provide guided audio tour services in Vietnamese, Thai, and Burmese language, and Indonesian. New Taipei City Tamsui Historical Museum offers the first Beacon mobile guide in Vietnamese to invite new immigrants and Vietnamese tourists to know more about Tamsui’s nature and culture through their familiar language. In addition, from now to the end of October 2018, new immigrants and their children are welcome to visit Fort San Domingo for free. New Immigrant Service Ambassadors in Museums

National Taiwan Museum is located in the 228 Peace Memorial Park where new immigrants and migrant workers usually get together on weekends. In order to encourage them to be close to the museums, National Taiwan Museum recruited “New Immigrant Service Ambassador” since 2014. Through a series of courses and training, new immigrant service ambassadors provide guided tours in their native languages for new immigrants and migrant workers from Southeast Asia to make the museum more available for them. National Taiwan Museum provides free foreign language guided tours on a certain schedule. While National Taiwan Museum provides new immigrants with guided tour services, National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute Taipei Branch also actively train guided tour service ambassadors to enable new immigrants to make use their expertise in native languages and attract more Southeast Asian tourists to know Taiwanese culture. For the time being, multilingual guided tour services are available in Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, and Burma language. Government Prints Tourist Brochures to Provide Friendly Services 

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published “A Glance of Taiwan” to introduce Taiwan’s various attractions, history, population, culture, economic, and other information with Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Malay versions to make the first-time visitor know more about Taiwan’s culture and customs. Other related publications can be downloaded from the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Local governments, such as Keelung City and Taichung City, also create guidebooks in Southeast Asian languages that are free for everyone to enable new immigrants and migrant workers involving in local cultures.

“QTaiwan” App for Multilingual Guided Tour Service

Global Workers' Organization, Taiwan particularly developed “QTaiwan” App to introduce famous cultural attractions in Taiwan with the option of using multiple languages, such as Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, English, and Chinese. “QTaiwan” App also has audio guided tour services to introduce National Taichung Theater, Tainan’s Hayashi Department Store, Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 Art Center, and other cultural attractions, which invites Southeast Asian tourists and new immigrants to learn more about Taiwan and lets the beauty of Taiwan’s culture be known by more people. This App offers iOS and Android versions. Governments Create Travel Websites to Take You to Various Scenic Attractions. 

Local governments create travel websites to provide various local attractions, cultural features, transportation, travel promotion packages, and other information to make it easy for tourists to plan their itineraries. Most travel websites offer multiple languages, such as English, Japanese, and Korean. To respond to the increasing number of Southeast Asian tourists, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesia, and other languages are also available on the travel websies. Tourists from different countries can navigate the web pages and local cultural features through their native languages.
