On May 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan, and the CECC is still investigating their source of infection. Those two new cases are a pilot (Case #1153) and a flight attendant (Case #1154) of an airline company.

Case #1153 is a Taiwanese male in his 30s who is a pilot for an airline company. He was on duty in the United States between April 16 and April 18. After returning to Taiwan, he quarantined at home until April 21. He was tested before completing the quarantine period, and the test result was negative. He was tested again on April 25, and he tested negative after given an RT-PCR test and an antibody test. He experienced a fever, cough, and runny nose on May 1. The health authority then arranged for him to be tested; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4 (the CT value was 13).

The CECC pointed out that Case #1153 had visited some public venues during infectious period. The venues he visited and the time periods are listed below. Members of the public who have visited those locations during the time periods mentioned below are reminded to practice self-health monitoring for 14 days. If suspected symptoms develop, members of the public must put on a mask and voluntarily inform the physician of any history of contact and activity.

Case #1154 is a Taiwanese female in her 20s who is a flight attendant for an airline company. She was on duty in the United States between April 22 and April 25. After returning to Taiwan, she quarantined at home until April 28. She was tested before completing the quarantine period, and the test result was negative. She was tested again on April 30, and she tested negative after given an RT-PCR test and an antibody test. She felt hot and experienced dizziness and stomachache on May 2. The quarantine facility then arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4 (the CT value was 14).

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 2110,553 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 208,190. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1153 cases. Of the 1153 confirmed cases, 1009 are imported; 94 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 11 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 12 deaths, and 1067 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 74 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
