Continuation elementary and junior high schools

Admission:

Continuation elementary school: The age requirement is 12 or above. Students are grouped into classes that reflect their competence, based on test results or academic credentials (rather than school districts).

Continuation junior high school: The age requirement is 15 or above. Applicants must have an elementary education degree or equivalent, or have passed the tests required for homeschooling eligibility. Limits of school districts do not apply.

The city government has directed elementary and junior high schools to develop such continuation schooling programs. The move is expected to help immigrants pursue their desired education degrees.

Adult basic education

Admission: We offer free adult basic education programs and Chinese literacy education programs for foreign spouses. Applicants must be Taiwanese citizens or foreign spouses (including Chinese ones) who are aged 15 or older and illiterate or do not have an elementary school degree.

The curricula consist of 72 hours of literacy programs (beginner, middle, and advanced). Students are encouraged to study at a continuation elementary school after completing the advanced program to pursue an official education degree.

The city government entrusts the programs annually to lifelong-learning institutions such as elementary and high schools, community colleges, and senior learning centers.
