Q1. What can I learn from the program?

A1. Southeast Asian countries have become an important source of tourists to Taiwan. With immigrants being skilled in Southeast Asian languages, service quality can be improved and partial shortage in tour guide personnel may be relieved if they can engage in the tour guide business and serve tourists from their home country to introduce Taiwan's scenery in their native language fluently.

In addition to a high school diploma (or higher education background), an applicant must also pass the “Junior Professional and Technical Examinations for Tour Guides” held by the Ministry of Examination and obtain the license to work as a tour guide. Therefore, the Tourism Bureau has launched the “Tour Guide Certification Aid Program for Rare Languages” to assist immigrants with a high school diploma (or higher education background) in passing the tour guide examination.

Q2. When can I enroll in the program?

A2. The “Junior Professional and Technical Examinations for Tour Guides” is held annually by the Ministry of Examination, with the online application starting in late December, and the examination taking place in March of the next year. Classes for the “Tour Guide Certification Aid Program for Rare Languages” are offered from September to November every year to immigrants with a high school diploma (or higher education background). Information on these classes will be available on the Development Network for Immigrants website.

Q3. How much will I pay to attend the program?

A3. Fees for the program are now covered by the Tourism Bureau.
